Comm2A Files Amicus in Wilson v. Cook CountyCommonwealth Second Amendment (Comm2A) is one of several local and national gun rights organizations who have filed an amicus brief on behalf of Plaintiffs-Petitioners Matthew D. Wilson, Troy Edhlund, and Joseph Messineo. This case represents a challenge to the Cook County assault weapon ban that prohibits certain features that are available on several classes of firearms in common use by law abiding people through the United States.
The Comm2A brief focuses on the nature, purpose, and history of the features prohibited by the Cook County ordinance. Features banned by Cook County represent a logical evolution of improvements to modern firearms, all of which contribute affirmatively to the usability and safety of firearms protected by the Second Amendment. Bans such as the one in Cook County defy logic as they’re the only instance where a government deliberately seeks to restrict improvements designed to make a product safer and more useable. The Cook County ordinance effectively makes a lawful product more difficult to use and potentially more dangerous to the user. Commonwealth Second Amendment (Comm2A) is a Massachusetts based non-profit dedicated to preserving and expanding the rights of gun owners in the northeast. We are dedicated to promoting a better understanding of rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. In addition to organizing and funding a number of exciting projects, our activities include educational programs designed to promote a better understanding of Massachusetts and Federal firearms laws and rights as well as programs to defend and protect the civil rights of Massachusetts gun owners. |
